Andrea Joyce Marino worked in New York, as a lawyer, until she moved to Grandview. She then obtained a job at The Same As It Never Was, the antique store owned by Melinda Gordon.

When Andrea first moved to Grandview, she was a little skeptical of Melinda. When Melinda told Andrea of her special gift that she sees Earth-bound spirits, Melinda at first, thought Andrea would reject her. But instead, she accepted Melinda's gift and they become best friends. Melinda told Andrea her ability when Andrea was being haunted by a ghost that used to live in her apartment. Andrea was always open-minded and insightful and she tried to be compassionate but also assertive regarding what she stands for, evident of when she got a con man to return the money he stole from her and Melinda and also when she recounted a bigoted security guard tackling her to ground because he thought she stole a bottle of wine. In the season 1 finale, and season 2 premiere, Andrea was on her way to her brother Mitch's apartment her car was in the path of the plane when it crashed, Not realizing at first that she died, she talks to Melinda who knew she had. She only realizes that she had died when Mitch visits Melinda at her store later that night and runs right past Andrea asking her what happened. Romano (a ghost who helps spirits stay on Earth) wanted to make her one of his new followers. In the end, she made peace with Mitch and crossed over into the Light.
